Gimbal lock - In gyroscopic devices controlled by Euler mechanics or Euler angles, gimbal lock is caused by the alignment of two of the three gimbals together so that one of the rotation references (pitch/yaw/roll, often yaw) is cancelled. This would require a reset of the gimbals using an outside reference.

X-44 MANTA - The X-44 MANTA (Multi-Axis No-Tail Aircraft) is intended to test the feasibility of full yaw, pitch and roll control without any use of tailplanes (horizontal or vertical). Attitude manipulation relies purely on 3D thrust vectoring.

Robocrane - The Robocrane® is a kind of manipulator resembling a Stewart platform but using an octahedral assembly of cables instead of struts. Like the Stewart platform, the Robocrane has six degrees of freedom (x, y, z, pitch, roll, & yaw).

Elevon - [at the wing trailing edge are used for pitch and roll control of the F-117A Nighthawk ( best seen by clicking on the picture). Rudders on the V-tail control the aircraft in yaw]

'Slope Soaring' - ... to flight instruments is usually the appearance of the natural horizon or the ratio of visible sky to ground, when the pilot does not usually need to know the exact airpseed and altitude, and minimal or no instrumentation may be used. Pitch can be seen as the ratio of visible sky to ground. Visual, auditory and kinesthetic cues provide surprisingly accurate feedback to the aircraft's attitude. Visual flight See also Visual Flight - airplanes. They are pitch, roll and yaw. Visual flight in any type of aircraft relies on similar principles. When flying unpowered aircraft such as gliders or hang gliders, the pilot does not usually need to know the exact airpseed and altitude, and direction ...
